Person

I teach Jewish Studies with a focus on rabbinic Judaism and its impact on the various denominations of modern Judaism. Rabbinic Judaism emerged during the early centuries of the common era during a period when its most important texts, the Mishnah, Talmuds and collections of biblical interpretation developed. Currently, I teach mainly within the Master’s Program, The Religious Roots of Europe, which focuses on the role that interaction between Jews, Christians and Muslims has played for their respective identity formation.

My main area of research is rabbinic Judaism and its formation in interaction with Christianity. In particular, I focus on the role that Jesus-oriented Jews (Jewish Christians) played for the formation of rabbinic Judaism. Currently, I am involved in a multidisciplinary project on identity formation processes within early Judaism and Christianity.
